I have had a difficult time painting this fall (2022) but feeling better. One of the things that has helped is pushing through to finish this painting. This has been a hard piece to paint, for several reasons, but mostly because of facing a bit of the reality of life Down East. I love being Down East and all the people I have come to know and love. One of the things I have come to understand is their ability to face a problem and keep going.
Unlike most of my other paintings, the thing that drew me to this image were the sharp edges and angles. I guess both artistically and emotionally. And then when I saw the rust on the pump I knew I had to paint it. I hope you enjoy it. This is an old diesel pump in Atlantic NC.
