Down East: A Cultural Heritage :: Giclee Prints

As a painter, I don't really consider myself a historian. I am less concerned about what has happened 10 15 or 20 years ago as I am with what is happening right now. We live in the present and I want my paintings to be an expression of what I experienced right now. I want to hold on to these moments and portray them in paintings so that in 10 or 15 years these paintings reflect the history of what is going on right now.

What first drew me to Down East was the raw innate beauty of a life on display. The towns were built in a way that was functional first and aesthetics were an afterthought. What kept me here are the people. The stories, the interaction, the heart and perseverance of life in a difficult environment.

I allow myself the freedom to paint what excites me visually without trying to make it into something larger and if something clicks and it grows in my mind then that place become my artistic home for a while.

At the end of the project, the complete works will be made into a book that will document the beauty as well as the struggle our Down East communities live through on a daily basis.
